I moved here from Wisconsin in 2005 and raised my family in this town. My kids grew up here. My church is here. The business that started with me photographing my own children in our backyard has grown into twenty years of photographing hundreds of families across the Tri-Cities — and it grew up in Richland.
I mention it because it changes what you get. When we plan your session, I'm not pulling up a map and guessing. I know when the trees along the river turn and roughly how long they hold. I know which places empty out at dinnertime and which fill up on weekends. I know what the light does here in February versus June, because I've been standing in it for two decades.
Twenty Years of Watching This Light
Richland gives us a few things that are genuinely good for photographs: the river running along the length of it, open spaces at the edges before the hills start, dry air that makes evening light go warm and gold, and enough parks and quiet corners that we're never fighting a crowd.
I'm not going to publish my exact locations — a photographer's spots are hard-won and I'd like to keep a few of them.
